What does it look like?

...not your Grandparent's Dance!

It is fun, silly, sexy, wild, romantic, energetic, and, with the right teachers, easy enough that ANYone can do it!

Swing dancers invent moves constantly, and movements are inspired by what's being said in the music. Swing (or Lindy Hop) is extremely forgiving - mistakes are just part of creating something interesting. The dancers don't value precision; they value PLAYFULNESS. Face it: This Swing Is HOT!

But to me, what distinguishes Lindy Hop from any other dance is the reckless balls-out abandon that results from doing medium to fast lindy hop to a four-on-the-floor song with a beat that doesn't lay back or rush, it just hits a pocket and you buckle your seat belt and bring your seat backs to an upright and locked position. Lindy Hop is not so preoccupied with form or steps or technique as it is with SPIRIT, a spirit that projects outwards so forcefully that people watching can't help but nod and say "that is Lindy Hop, no question about it". -Julius Yang
